- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
Upon request made on or after July 1, 1987, the Department shall furnish to any county or municipality a list containing the name of each corporation, society, association, foundation or institution organized and operated exclusively for charitable, religious or educational purposes, and each not-for-profit corporation, society, association, foundation, institution or organization which has no compensated officers or employees and which is organized and operated primarily for the recreation of persons 55 years of age or older, which had a valid exemption identification number on the first day of January or July, as the case may be, proceeding the date on which such request is received and which is located within the corporate limits of such municipality or the unincorporated territory of such county, except that the list need not include subsidiary organizations using an exemption identification number issued to its parent organization as provided by Section 1g of this Act.
