- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
The Department of Revenue is hereby empowered and authorized in the name of the People of the State of Illinois in a suit or suits in any court of competent jurisdiction to enforce the collection of any unpaid tax, fines or penalties provided for in this Act.
