Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 40 ILCS 5/13-315
- Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
- Surviving spouse: means "widow" or "widower" as the case may be. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.32
Any competent employee annuitant or surviving spouse annuitant may execute a waiver of the right to receive any part of the total annuity. The waiver shall be effective when filed with the Board. A waiver once filed may not be revoked, except within the first 30 days after being filed.
