Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 40 ILCS 5/7-157

  • Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
  • Month: means a calendar month, and the word "year" a calendar year unless otherwise expressed; and the word "year" alone, is equivalent to the expression "year of our Lord. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.10
  • Surviving spouse: means "widow" or "widower" as the case may be. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.32
     If a surviving spouse annuitant marries before reaching age 55, the annuity shall be terminated as of the end of the calendar month following the month in which the marriage occurs, unless the marriage occurs after December 31, 2000.
