- County board: means the board of county commissioners in counties not under township organization, and the board of supervisors in counties under township organization, and the board of commissioners of Cook County. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.07
Each sheriff may appoint one or more deputies, not exceeding the number allowed by the county board of his or her county. No person who has ever been classified as a conscientious objector by a local selective service draft board may be appointed as a deputy sheriff.
