May 17th of each year is designated as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) Awareness Day. Brain tumors are the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children, and DIPG is a highly aggressive brain tumor that affects roughly 300 children a year in the United States. DIPG Awareness Day is to be observed throughout the State as a day to encourage the people of Illinois to help increase public awareness of this particularly aggressive form of cancer affecting children.
