Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 490/160

  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
     The first full week of January of each year is designated as Emancipation Proclamation Week, to be observed throughout the State as a week for holding appropriate educational and celebratory events and observances in the public schools and elsewhere to honor and remember the work of Abraham Lincoln and others in emancipating Americans from slavery and in leading to the end of slavery in America.
