- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
“Other civil cases” and “ordinary civil cases” or any equivalent expression, when used with reference to practice, procedure, or appeal, shall be deemed to refer to cases under the Civil Practice Law, and all existing and future amendments thereto and modifications thereof, and the Supreme Court Rules as now or hereafter adopted.
