Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 625 ILCS 45/2-3
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Prosecute: To charge someone with a crime. A prosecutor tries a criminal case on behalf of the government.
- State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
All prosecutions under the provisions of this Act shall be brought in the name and by the authority of the People of the State of Illinois before the circuit court having jurisdiction under the law relative to the enforcement of the provisions hereof. It is the duty of all State’s Attorneys to enforce the provisions of this Act in their respective counties, and to prosecute all persons charged with violating the provisions hereof.
