Under the Illinois Statutes, punishments for crimes depend on the classification. In the case of this section:Class | Prison | Fine |

Class A misdemeanor | up to 1 year | up to $2,500 |
Any person who acts as a motor carrier and who fails to carry a manifest as provided in Section 5.5 of the Motor Fuel Tax Law is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor. For each subsequent offense, the person is guilty of a Class 4 felony.
