Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 65 ILCS 5/8-2-8

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
     Nothing contained in Sections 8-2-1 through 8-2-7 shall deprive the corporate authorities of power to provide for the payment from the funds of the municipality of any charge imposed by law without the action of any corporate authority thereof, whenever the payment of the charge has been ordered by a court of competent jurisdiction.
