Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 705 ILCS 110/2

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Petty offense: A federal misdemeanor punishable by six months or less in prison. Source: U.S. Courts
  • Probate: Proving a will
     Any person violating Section 1 of this Act shall be guilty of a petty offense and shall be fined $50 for the first offense by any court having jurisdiction and $100 for the second offense, and if such violation is by a county or probate clerk then he may also be removed from his office.
