- Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
A person who represents himself or herself during any phase of a jury trial and is subsequently found guilty of any charge must seek and obtain leave of the court prior to making any attempt to contact any member of the jury panel, regardless of the reason for inquiry.
