Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 705 ILCS 75/3

  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
  • Reporter: Makes a record of court proceedings and prepares a transcript, and also publishes the court's opinions or decisions (in the courts of appeals).
  • Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
     Upon order of the court, the official court reporter shall transcribe and furnish an original and a copy or copies of the pre-trial proceedings and the proceedings at the trial of any person where, pursuant to Rule 607 of the Illinois Supreme Court, an order could be entered so requiring, if the defendant is convicted.
