Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 710 ILCS 40/5
- Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
Conflict resolution techniques such as mediation, settlement conferences, arbitration, and other alternative forms of dispute resolution may reduce costs for civil litigants and simplify issues and reduce caseloads in the reviewing courts. The purpose of this Act is to facilitate the funding of alternative dispute resolution programs in the reviewing courts should the Supreme Court, in its discretion, adopt rules to establish such programs in Illinois.
