- Indictment: The formal charge issued by a grand jury stating that there is enough evidence that the defendant committed the crime to justify having a trial; it is used primarily for felonies.
Proceedings under this Act may be by indictment or information. No proceeding may be brought under Section 15 against a person whose court or administrative order for support was entered by default, unless the indictment or information specifically alleges that the person has knowledge of the existence of the order for support and that the person has the ability to pay the support.
