- Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
“Standby guardian” means: (i) a guardian of the person or estate, or both, of a minor, as appointed by the court under Section 11-5.3, to become effective at a later date under Section 11-13.1 or (ii) a guardian of the person or estate, or both, of a person with a disability, as appointed by the court under Section 11a-3.1, to become effective at a later date under Section 11a-18.2.
