In this Act:
“Department” means the Department of Labor.
“Director” means the Director of Labor.
“Division” means the Division of Occupational Safety and Health within the Department of Labor.
“Employee” means a person in the service of any of the following entities, regardless of whether the service is by virtue of election, by appointment or contract, or by hire, and regardless of whether the relationship is express or implied or established orally or in writing:
(1) The State. For purposes of this paragraph

- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
“Director” means the Director of Labor.
“Division” means the Division of Occupational Safety and Health within the Department of Labor.
“Employee” means a person in the service of any of the following entities, regardless of whether the service is by virtue of election, by appointment or contract, or by hire, and regardless of whether the relationship is express or implied or established orally or in writing:
(1) The State. For purposes of this paragraph

(1), the term includes a member of the General Assembly, a member of the Illinois Commerce Commission, a member of the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission, and any person in the service of a public university or college in Illinois.

(2) An Illinois county. For purposes of this

paragraph (2), the term includes a deputy sheriff and an assistant State’s Attorney.

(3) An Illinois township.

“Public employer” or “employer” means the State of Illinois or any political subdivision of the State.
