Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 820 ILCS 275/40
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
The courts of this State have jurisdiction to bind: (1) State residents; and (2) non-residents having minimum contacts with this State to the extent permitted by Section 2-209 of the Code of Civil Procedure.
