- Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
- Appellate: About appeals; an appellate court has the power to review the judgement of another lower court or tribunal.
- Board: means the State Board of Elections. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 10 ILCS 5/12A-2
- Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- Internet Guide: refers to information disseminated by the State Board of Elections on a website, pursuant to Section 12A-5. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 10 ILCS 5/12A-2
- Local election authority: means a county clerk or board of election commissioners. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 10 ILCS 5/12A-2
- question: means any question, proposition, or referendum submitted to the voters under Article 28 of this Code. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 10 ILCS 5/12A-2
- State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
- Statewide candidate: means any candidate who runs for a statewide office, including Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Comptroller, United States President, or United States Senator. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 10 ILCS 5/12A-2
- United States: may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
