Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes > 235 ILCS 5 > Article IX - Local Referendum

  • Affidavit: A written statement of facts confirmed by the oath of the party making it, before a notary or officer having authority to administer oaths.
  • Annexed area: means a territory which has attached to and become a part of a different political subdivision or precinct. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 235 ILCS 5/9-1
  • Disconnected area: means a territory which has detached or separated from a political subdivision or precinct. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 235 ILCS 5/9-1
  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Licensed establishment: means the premises specified in a retailer's license pursuant to paragraph (d) of Section 5-1 and whose primary business is the sale of alcoholic beverages on the premises, which premises are located in any municipality having more than 2,000,000 inhabitants. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 235 ILCS 5/9-1
  • Political subdivision: means a township, road district, city, village or incorporated town, as the case may be. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 235 ILCS 5/9-1
  • Precinct: means any part of a city, village or incorporated town of over 200,000 population which was a "voting precinct" or an "election precinct" for voting at the last general election. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 235 ILCS 5/9-1
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
  • Summons: Another word for subpoena used by the criminal justice system.
  • sworn: shall be construed to include the word "affirmed. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.12
