Sec. 8. (a) The board of each local health department may enter into
contract with the state department, other local boards of health, other units of government, a private individual, or a
corporation for the provision of health services within the board’s
jurisdiction. The private contracts are subject to approval of the county executive or city executive.

Terms Used In Indiana Code 16-20-1-8
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
(b) A local board of health, a county executive, or a city fiscal body may contract with or purchase from any individual, organization, limited liability company, partnership, or corporation planning services considered essential to the development of an effective community health program.
