Sec. 28. (a) The board shall create the following:

(1) A division of public health.

Terms Used In Indiana Code 16-22-8-28

  • board: refers to the board of a municipal corporation created under this chapter. See Indiana Code 16-22-8-2.1
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • division: means an administrative subdivision created by this chapter or by the board. See Indiana Code 16-22-8-3
(2) A division of public hospitals.

(3) Other divisions the board considers necessary.

     (b) The division of public health shall serve as the county health department with powers and duties conferred by law upon local departments of health.

     (c) The division of public hospitals shall operate the corporation‘s hospitals, medical facilities, and mental health facilities.
