Sec. 1. (a) The medical licensing board of Indiana is created. It shall consist of seven (7) members, not more than four (4) of whom shall be members of the same political party. The members shall be appointed by the governor, and all vacancies occurring on the board shall be filled by the governor. Subject to IC 25-1-6.5-3, the membership of the board shall consist of the following:

(1) Five (5) reputable physicians who:

Terms Used In Indiana Code 25-22.5-2-1

  • Board: refers to the medical licensing board of Indiana. See Indiana Code 25-22.5-1-1.1
  • Medical school: means a nationally accredited college of medicine or of osteopathic medicine approved by the board. See Indiana Code 25-22.5-1-1.1
  • Physician: means any person who holds the degree of doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy or its equivalent and who holds a valid unlimited license to practice medicine or osteopathic medicine in Indiana. See Indiana Code 25-22.5-1-1.1
(A) are graduates of a medical school;

(B) hold the degree of doctor of medicine or its equivalent; and

(C) hold valid unlimited licenses to practice medicine in Indiana.

(2) One (1) reputable osteopathic physician who:

(A) is a graduate of an accredited osteopathic medical school;

(B) holds the degree of doctor of osteopathy or its equivalent; and

(C) holds a valid unlimited license to practice osteopathic medicine in Indiana.

(3) One (1) member who:

(A) will represent the general public;

(B) is a resident of this state; and

(C) is in no way associated with the medical profession other than as a consumer.

     (b) Members are appointed under IC 25-1-6.5.

     (c) A member of the board may be removed under IC 25-1-6.5-4.
