Sec. 11. (a) An Indiana tribunal issuing a spousal support order consistent with Indiana law has continuing, exclusive
jurisdiction to modify the spousal support order throughout the existence of the support
obligation.

Terms Used In Indiana Code 31-18.5-2-11
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
(b) An Indiana tribunal may not modify a spousal support order issued by a tribunal of another state or a foreign country having continuing, exclusive jurisdiction over that order under the law of that state or foreign country.
(c) An Indiana tribunal that has continuing, exclusive jurisdiction over a spousal support order may serve as:
(1) an initiating tribunal to request a tribunal of another state to enforce the spousal support order issued in Indiana; or
(2) a responding tribunal to enforce or modify its own spousal support order.
