Sec. 3. If it appears to the juvenile court that a child has a mental illness, the court may:

(1) refer the matter to the court having probate jurisdiction for civil commitment proceedings under IC 12-26; or

Terms Used In Indiana Code 31-34-19-3

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Probate: Proving a will
