- Charity: An agency, institution, or organization in existence and operating for the benefit of an indefinite number of persons and conducted for educational, religious, scientific, medical, or other beneficent purposes.
- commission: refers to the Indiana utility regulatory commission. See Indiana Code 8-1-1-1
Sec. 1. Any public utility operating in any city or town, and any city or town in Indiana which owns or operates any public utility, is authorized, with the consent of the commission, to furnish utility service, free of charge, to any hospital that is located within the city or town, or immediately adjacent to the city or town, and that accepts and cares for charity patients.
