Indiana Code 8-23-16-5. Right to select defense counsel; relieve from civil damages

Sec. 5. This chapter may not be construed to:

(1) deprive a member of the right to select defense counsel at the member’s own expense; or

Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
member: means all employees and appointees of the department. See Indiana Code 8-23-16-1

(2) relieve a member from responsibility in civil damages.
