Terms Used In Indiana Code > Title 12 > Article 12 - Rehabilitation Services

  • Bequest: Property gifted by will.
  • center for independent living: means a consumer controlled, community based, cross-disability, nonresidential private nonprofit agency that:

    Indiana Code 12-12-8-1

  • commission: refers to the commission on rehabilitation services established by section 2 of this chapter. See Indiana Code 12-12-2-1
  • commissioner: means the commissioner of the Rehabilitation Services Administration in the United States Department of Education. See Indiana Code 12-12-8-1.5
  • council: means the statewide independent living council established by section 6 of this chapter. See Indiana Code 12-12-8-2.5
  • cross-disability: means , with respect to a center for independent living, that a center provides independent living services to individuals representing a range of significant disabilities and does not require the presence of one (1) or more specific significant disabilities before determining that an individual is eligible for independent living services. See Indiana Code 12-12-8-3
  • Ex officio: Literally, by virtue of one's office.
  • federal act: refers to the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Indiana Code 12-12-8-3.2
  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
  • rehabilitation technology: means the provision of physical devices or the adaptation of the physical environment to enable persons with physical disabilities to perform everyday activities in a workplace, in an educational setting, or in a home or other place of residence. See Indiana Code 12-12-6-1
  • Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
  • state plan: means the materials jointly developed and submitted by the council and the division to the commissioner containing the state's proposals for the following:

  • Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
  • unit: refers to the unit of services for the deaf and hard of hearing established by IC 12-12-1-2. See Indiana Code 12-12-7-1
