For the purposes of this chapter:
1. “Educational institution” means any of the following:
a. A nonpublic school accredited pursuant to section 256.11.
b. A public school district.
c. An institution governed by the state board of regents pursuant to chapter 262.
d. A community college as defined in section 260C.2.
e. Any institution of higher education located in this state that is a member of the national collegiate athletic association, national association of intercollegiate athletics, or national junior college athletic association.
Terms Used In Iowa Code 261I.1
- following: when used by way of reference to a chapter or other part of a statute mean the next preceding or next following chapter or other part. See Iowa Code 4.1
- person: means individual, corporation, limited liability company, government or governmental subdivision or agency, business trust, estate, trust, partnership or association, or any other legal entity. See Iowa Code 4.1
- School: means an agency of the state or political subdivision of the state, individual, partnership, company, firm, society, trust, association, corporation, or any combination which meets any of the following criteria:a. See Iowa Code 261B.2
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories, and the words "United States" may include the said district and territories. See Iowa Code 4.1
- Student: means a person who enrolls in or seeks to enroll in a course of instruction offered or conducted by a school. See Iowa Code 261B.2
2. “Organization” means the same as defined in section 280.13.3. “Sex” means a person‘s biological sex as either female or male. The sex listed on a student‘s official birth certificate or certificate issued upon adoption may be relied upon if the certificate was issued at or near the time of the student’s birth.
