Terms Used In Iowa Code 262.70
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Intellectual disability: means a diagnosis of intellectual disability or intellectual developmental disorder, global developmental delay, or unspecified intellectual disability or intellectual developmental disorder which diagnosis shall be made only when the onset of the person's condition was during the developmental period and based on an assessment of the person's intellectual functioning and level of adaptive skills. See Iowa Code 4.1
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories, and the words "United States" may include the said district and territories. See Iowa Code 4.1
The department of health and human services may contract with the board of regents or any institution under the board’s jurisdiction to establish and maintain programs of education, prevention, and research in the fields of mental health, intellectual disability, developmental disabilities, and brain injury. The board may delegate responsibility for these programs to the state psychiatric hospital, the university hospital, or any other appropriate entity under the board’s jurisdiction.
