Terms Used In Iowa Code 523G.7

  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
  • person: means individual, corporation, limited liability company, government or governmental subdivision or agency, business trust, estate, trust, partnership or association, or any other legal entity. See Iowa Code 4.1
523G.7 Negotiable instruments.
An invention developer shall not take a negotiable instrument from a customer as part of a
contract, unless the negotiable instrument is a check constituting evidence of the customer’s obligation. A person in possession of a negotiable instrument is not a holder in due course as defined in § 554.3302, if the person takes a negotiable instrument from a customer in violation of this section.
