- Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
- Venue: The geographical location in which a case is tried.
600B.10 Venue.
The action shall be by ordinary proceedings entitled in the name of the complainant against
the defendant and shall be brought in the district court in the county in which the alleged father is permanently or temporarily resident, or in which the mother or the child resides or is found.
