1. The governing body of a city, a county, the state of Iowa, or the Iowa department of corrections may provide, either separately or collectively through a chapter 28E agreement, for the establishment of a force of reserve peace officers, and may limit the size of the reserve force. In the case of the state, the department of public safety shall act as the governing body.
Terms Used In Iowa Code 80D.1
- Reserve force: means an organization of reserve peace officers established as provided in this chapter. See Iowa Code 80D.1A
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories, and the words "United States" may include the said district and territories. See Iowa Code 4.1
2. The governing body of a tribal government may provide for the establishment of a force of reserve peace officers and may limit the size of the reserve force.
3. This chapter constitutes the only procedure for appointing reserve peace officers.
