Terms Used In Iowa Code > Chapter 135A - Public Health Modernization Act
- accredited: means a certification of the quality of an institution of higher education. See Iowa Code 135A.2
- Board: means the board of hearing aid specialists. See Iowa Code 154A.1
- Department: means the department of inspections, appeals, and licensing. See Iowa Code 154A.1
- Department: means the department of health and human services. See Iowa Code 135A.2
- Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
- following: when used by way of reference to a chapter or other part of a statute mean the next preceding or next following chapter or other part. See Iowa Code 4.1
- Governmental public health system: means local boards of health, the council on health and human services, designated local public health agencies, the state hygienic laboratory, and the department. See Iowa Code 135A.2
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Local board of health: means the same as defined in section 137. See Iowa Code 135A.2
- Organizational capacity: means the governmental public health infrastructure that must be in place in order to deliver public health services. See Iowa Code 135A.2
- Public health system: means all public, private, and voluntary entities that contribute to the delivery of public health services within a jurisdiction. See Iowa Code 135A.2
- State: means a state, territory, or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. See Iowa Code 152E.3
- United States: includes all the states. See Iowa Code 4.1
