- State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Kansas Statutes 77-201
(a) The county election officer shall provide ballot boxes for each voting place. The secretary of state may adopt rules and regulations authorizing, in certain cases, additional or fewer ballot boxes than specified in subsection (b) to be supplied.
(b) Unless otherwise provided by rules and regulations adopted by the secretary of state, a separate ballot box shall be provided for each of the types of ballots named in the following list, if such ballots are to be voted at the election:
(1) A box for “national and state ballots”;
(2) a box for “county and township ballots”;
(3) a box for “judicial ballots”;
(4) a box for “city ballots”;
(5) a box for “school ballots”;
(6) a box for “ballots for constitutional amendments”; and
(7) a box for “questions submitted.”
(c) Each ballot box shall be labeled according to its appropriate designation as set out in subsection (b).
(d) The provisions of this section shall only apply to elections conducted in counties that do not use tabulators or optical scanners to count votes.
