Kansas Statutes 31-702. Definitions
As used in the state fire marshal commissioned inspector act:
(a) “Building” means any building owned, maintained or controlled by the state board of regents.

- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Kansas Statutes 77-201
(b) “Commissioned inspector” means an employee of a state educational institution who has been appointed by the state fire marshal, pursuant to Kan. Stat. Ann. § 75-3137, and amendments thereto, to inspect buildings in conjunction with the office of the state fire marshal.
(c) “Employee” means an employee of a state educational institution.
(d) “Local fire authority” means the fire department of the city, county, township or fire district having jurisdiction over the area in which a building is located.
(e) “State educational institution” has the meaning ascribed thereto by Kan. Stat. Ann. § 76-711, and amendments thereto.
(f) “State fire marshal” means the state fire marshal appointed pursuant to Kan. Stat. Ann. § 75-1510, and amendments thereto.
