Terms Used In Kansas Statutes 44-1007
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Person: includes one or more individuals, partnerships, associations, organizations, corporations, legal representatives, trustees, trustees in bankruptcy or receivers. See Kansas Statutes 44-1002
- Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
If any clause, sentence, paragraph or part of this act or the application thereof to any person or circumstances shall for any reason be adjudged by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid such judgment shall not affect, impair or invalidate the remainder of this act and the application thereof to other persons or circumstances but shall be confined in its operation to the clause, sentence, paragraph or part thereof directly involved in the controversy in which such judgment shall have been rendered and the persons or circumstances involved. It is hereby declared to be the legislative intent that this act would have been adopted had such provisions not been included.
