The defendant may at any time after the proceeding is commenced file with the clerk of the court a bond, to be approved by the judge of the district court, in double the amount of the claim or such lesser amount as shall be approved by order of the judge to the effect that the defendant will pay to the plaintiff on demand the amount of the judgment and costs that may be assessed against such defendant, and thereupon, the garnishee shall be discharged and any money or property paid or delivered to any officer shall be delivered to the person entitled thereto.
