Determination of a school district to change from one method of election to another or from one voting plan to another, or both, shall be by any one of the following:

(a) The board, by a majority vote of the members-elect thereof, may adopt a resolution to change the method of election or voting plan, or both, and shall file a copy of such resolution in the office of the county election officer. If proceeding under this subsection (a), such resolution shall specify that the proposed change will be made only after the plan of change is first approved by a majority of the electors of the school district voting on the question at an election at which the question is submitted as provided in Kan. Stat. Ann. § 72-1087. Such resolution shall state that the plan of change is filed in the office of the clerk of the board.

(b) Upon the determination of the county election officer that a valid petition has been filed under Kan. Stat. Ann. § 72-1086, an election shall be called and held upon the proposition as provided in Kan. Stat. Ann. § 72-1087, and if the proposition is approved the method of election or voting plan or both shall be changed as provided in the plan of change voted upon at such election.
