- Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization

Appropriations may be made for capital outlay and other expenses to carry out the purpose of the office of information technology services for the same period as is authorized by Kan. Stat. Ann. § 46-155, and amendments thereto, for capital improvements. The executive chief information technology officer may enter into multiple year lease or acquisition contracts, subject to state purchasing laws not in conflict with the foregoing authorization and so long as such contracts do not extend beyond the appropriation periods, limitations and restrictions therefor.
