Terms Used In Kentucky Statutes > Chapter 181 - County and City Bridges, Tunnels, and Ferries

  • Action: includes all proceedings in any court of this state. See Kentucky Statutes 446.010
  • Affirmed: In the practice of the appellate courts, the decree or order is declared valid and will stand as rendered in the lower court.
  • Amortization: Paying off a loan by regular installments.
  • Bridge: includes the bridge and the approaches thereto. See Kentucky Statutes 181.010
  • City: includes town. See Kentucky Statutes 446.010
  • Company: may extend and be applied to any corporation, company, person, partnership, joint stock company, or association. See Kentucky Statutes 446.010
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Deed: The legal instrument used to transfer title in real property from one person to another.
  • Employee: includes agents, servants and independent contractors. See Kentucky Statutes 181.010
  • Gift: A voluntary transfer or conveyance of property without consideration, or for less than full and adequate consideration based on fair market value.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Lien: A claim against real or personal property in satisfaction of a debt.
  • Month: means calendar month. See Kentucky Statutes 446.010
  • Mortgage: The written agreement pledging property to a creditor as collateral for a loan.
  • Oath: A promise to tell the truth.
  • Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
  • Owner: means any person having any title or interest in lands, structures, rights-of-way, franchises, easements or other interests in land. See Kentucky Statutes 181.010
  • Real property: Land, and all immovable fixtures erected on, growing on, or affixed to the land.
  • State: when applied to a part of the United States, includes territories, outlying possessions, and the District of Columbia. See Kentucky Statutes 446.010
  • Streets: includes lanes and alleys. See Kentucky Statutes 181.010
  • Trustee: A person or institution holding and administering property in trust.
