There is hereby established and shall be maintained within the University of Kentucky a bureau of geological research and information to be known and designated as the Kentucky Geological Survey. The survey shall be under the direction of a person who shall be designated director of the survey and who shall be appointed in the same manner as other staff members of the university. The survey shall have a nonteaching staff to be appointed in the same manner as other staff members of the university. The director or a member of the nonteaching staff shall be designated state geologist and all members of the survey shall be employees of the University of Kentucky within the provisions of KRS § 164.220 to KRS § 164.230, inclusive.
