Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 37:935
- Authorized prescriber: means a licensed physician, dentist, or other health care provider authorized by law to prescribe drugs, medications, medical devices or appliances, and health care regimens. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 37:913
- Board: means the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 37:913
- Registered nurse: means any individual licensed under this Part to engage in the practice of nursing as defined in Paragraph (14) of this Section. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 37:913
Notwithstanding any other provision in this Chapter to the contrary, a registered nurse may administer, in accordance with an order of an authorized prescriber, anesthetic agents to intubated patients in critical care settings, and may titrate and continue infusion of local anesthetic agents through the use of epidural or perineural catheters for pain management, excluding obstetric patients, in accordance with rules and regulations promulgated by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing, in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Act.
