All persons before entering into a contract with the owner, driver or chauffeur of a motor vehicle, whereby the expenses of the trip or trips is to be shared by the co-traveler or co-travelers, shall make a thorough examination of the public records as to whether or not the owner, chauffeur or operator of the motor vehicle has complied with La. Rev. Stat. 45:181.
