Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 47:463.191

  • Department: means the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, acting directly through its duly authorized officers and agents, or whatever state board, official, or body may hereafter be authorized by law to exercise the functions now devolving upon it under the law. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 47:451
  • Motor vehicle: means every vehicle, as herein defined, which is self propelled. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 47:451

            A. Notwithstanding the provisions of La. Rev. Stat. 47:463(A)(3)(b), the secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall establish a special prestige license plate for motor vehicles, restricted to passenger cars, pickup trucks, motorcycles, recreational vehicles, and vans, which may be issued upon application of any Louisiana member of congress.

            B. The charge for this special prestige license plate shall be a one-time fee of twenty-five dollars for each plate, which shall be in addition to the standard motor vehicle license tax imposed by La. Const. Art. VII, § 5 , and a handling fee of three dollars and fifty cents for each plate to be retained by the department to offset a portion of administrative costs.

            C. The secretary shall promulgate rules and regulations necessary to implement the provisions of this Section, including rules and regulations governing the transfer and disposition of the license plates upon the death of the recipient and governing the design of the plate.
