- Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
A. A specifically authorized employee of a correctional institution may use reasonable force to detain a person for questioning on the premises of a correctional institution for a length of time not to exceed one hour, when he has reasonable cause to believe that the person is carrying contraband as defined in La. Rev. Stat. 14:402(D).
B. The specifically authorized employee, when he has reasonable cause to believe that the person is carrying contraband as defined in La. Rev. Stat. 14:402(D), may also detain such a person for arrest by a peace officer or for the procurement of a search warrant. The detention shall not constitute an arrest.
