Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 15:1096.6

  • Board: means the board of commissioners of the Tri-Parish Juvenile Justice Commission. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 15:1096
  • District: means the Tri-Parish Juvenile Justice District. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 15:1096
  • Facility: means any juvenile detention facility, shelter care facility, or such other juvenile justice facility. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 15:1096
  • Governing authority: means the governing authority of a parish. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 15:1096
  • Participating parish: means any parish which has entered into a participation agreement with the commission by which certain space within the facility is subleased to house juveniles from the participating parish. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 15:1096
  • Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.

The facility shall be used for the temporary detention of juveniles from the parishes within the district while awaiting trial or other disposition of their cases, runaways from parishes within the district, and juveniles awaiting transfer to the Department of Public Safety and Corrections.  Subject to the approval of the governing authorities of the parishes of Iberville, Pointe Coupee, and West Baton Rouge, juveniles from parishes outside of the district may be accepted by the board in accordance with rules and regulations adopted therefor by the board and pursuant to a participation agreement between the board and the governing authority of the participating parish, but only upon payment or agreement of the participating parish to pay the charge established for the sublease of space in the facility and the fee for the care and maintenance of each juvenile.
