A. Upon the recommendation of the director of the forensic unit of the Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System at Jackson and subsequent approval by the medical school of the Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, the board of supervisors of the Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College shall award annually a four-year scholarship to the medical school of the Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College. The recipient of any such scholarship may attend the medical school without the necessity of paying tuition, matriculation, registration, laboratory, athletic, medical or other special fees, and may receive a stipend from the board of supervisors. No person shall be awarded any such scholarship unless such person agrees to serve as a physician at the forensic unit of the Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System at Jackson at the rate of pay provided in appropriate civil service pay schedules for a period of two years after such person is awarded a certificate to practice medicine in the state of Louisiana. Any person awarded such a scholarship shall pay back to the state of Louisiana all funds received from such a scholarship if he fails to complete this required two-year service or a pro rata percentage of funds received if he completes less than two years service.
B. Information concerning any scholarships awarded pursuant to the provisions of Subsection A of this Section shall be published on the Louisiana Department of Health website. Such information shall include the name of the recipient and the award amount.
