Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 33:4720.131

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

A.  There is hereby created in and for the parish of Jefferson a public body corporate and politic known as the Jefferson Parish Redevelopment Authority.

B.(1)  In accordance with the provisions of La. Const. Art. VI, § 6 and the Jefferson Parish Charter, the authority shall be governed by the Jefferson Parish Council.  The Jefferson Parish Council, when acting as the governing body of the authority shall have the same jurisdiction and powers as when acting as the governing authority of the parish.

(2)  The governing body of the authority may create an advisory board, prescribing the number, manner of appointment, length of term, and advisory duties of members of such board.  The advisory board may prepare and recommend ordinances and resolutions designed to effectuate the purposes and provisions of the Chapter.
